Trauma, Grief, & Loss

“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.” — Carl Jung

Being exposed to trauma or significant loss can completely disrupt how you show up in your life — both for others and for yourself. Whether your experience involves assault, childhood neglect, combat, or the loss of a loved one, the pain of trauma often leads to emotional disconnection and numbness.

Therapy helps you reconnect with your full emotional range, process what’s been too heavy to hold alone, and reclaim the life that trauma once controlled. Our work together focuses on safety, meaning, and posttraumatic growth — helping you move from surviving to living fully.

Evidence-based approaches include: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Written Exposure Therapy (WET)

Behavioral Medicine

Behavioral medicine integrates psychology and physical health — addressing the mind–body connection behind chronic stress, illness, and pain.
I work with clients navigating challenges such as:

  • Perinatal mental health and emotional recovery after childbirth

  • Insomnia and other sleep difficulties

  • Chronic pain or illness

  • Tobacco or nicotine dependence

Our sessions combine empathy and neuroscience to help you make practical, lasting changes that support your body’s healing.

Relevant approaches include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain (CBT-CP), Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Reproductive Mental Health (IPT-RMH), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Depression & Anxiety

Depression and anxiety often show up together — in your body, thoughts, and emotions. You might feel numb, restless, self-critical, or overwhelmed by guilt and helplessness. Sometimes life begins to feel dull or meaningless, even when you “should” feel fine on paper.

Our work together focuses on understanding why your symptoms exist — not just how to reduce them. We’ll explore the deeper roots of your pain and shift your relationship with it so that your emotions become signals of healing, not signs of failure.

With anxiety, the goal isn’t to eliminate it — it’s to change your relationship with it. You’ll learn how to approach your emotions with curiosity and compassion instead of resistance, discovering that you’re more resilient than you ever imagined.

Common treatment approaches: Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

Reconnecting With Your Inner Child

At the core of my work is helping you build a more compassionate relationship with yourself — what I often call reparenting. Reparenting means learning to turn toward and care for the parts of you that were unseen, invalidated, or overwhelmed in the past. It’s about developing the inner safety, self-trust, and emotional regulation that allow real healing to take root.

Whether we’re working on trauma, depression, anxiety, or chronic stress, reparenting becomes a thread that ties it all together. As you learn to soothe your nervous system, meet your emotions with curiosity, and respond to yourself with compassion, you begin to rewrite your internal story — not from pain, but from empowerment.

(If this idea speaks to you, you can explore it more deeply in my Reparenting Course, which expands on these principles for new and aspiring parents.)
